Adult Learners Wales outside Dylan Thomas

Dylan Thomas: Beyond the classroom

A group of learners from Adult Learning Wales, accompanied by their tutor Catherine Davies and Curriculum Development Co-ordinator Julie Isaac-Evans, enjoyed an inspiring educational visit to the Dylan Thomas Centre and Dylan Thomas’ Birth House in Swansea.

The group has been studying poets from Wales, and Dylan Thomas was the focus of this special outing. At the Dylan Thomas Centre, learners explored the exhibition at their own pace, consolidating their studies with the wealth of information on display. This sparked lively discussion, thoughtful reflection, and a review of some of Thomas’ most celebrated works.

In the afternoon, the group continued their journey with a visit to Dylan Thomas’ Birth House. Here, they were welcomed with an engaging talk and given the opportunity to wander through the rooms where Thomas grew up and wrote up to two-thirds of his work.

The day proved a great success, deepening everyone’s appreciation for this much-loved Welsh poet. Heartfelt thanks go to the staff at the Dylan Thomas Centre and to Jan at the Dylan Thomas Birth House for their warm welcome and fascinating insights. Diolch yn fawr.
