Learners from Adult Learning Wales enjoyed an inspiring educational visit to the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Swansea, organised by Curriculum Development Coordinator Julie Isaac-Evans and led by art tutor Lawrence Mathias.
Lawrence guided the group through the exhibitions, sharing insights about the artworks and encouraging discussion. Learners also created their own sketches during the visit and reflected on their work through group discussion.
One highlight was the contribution of Teresa, a learner from Lawrence’s Swansea art course, who helped create a striking Welsh dragon artwork linking with India. This piece ties in perfectly with the gallery’s current exhibition Tigers and Dragons: India and Wales in Britain, and will be on display until 2 November.
Teresa explained that the collaborative dragon project took around six months to complete with others at the Glynn Vivian, and praised Lawrence for his encouragement and support since she joined one of his art courses earlier this year. She credits the classes with boosting her confidence and creativity.
From September, Lawrence will be holding art classes both online and face-to-face in the Neath Port Talbot area and in Swansea. Learners describe him as a patient, positive, and encouraging tutor, with sessions offering a therapeutic and enjoyable space to develop creative skills.
