Welsh History – Miners’ Strike – 1984

The course will provide an opportunity for you to share your experiences of the strike in this 40th anniversary year and we will review the media coverage at the time.

We will use multi-media sources to analyse and discuss the events and what they mean to us today.

This short course will give an overview of the bitter industrial strike waged to defend the pits and the communities that depended on them.

This course will look at the causes, the main events and characters and the consequences. The course will focus in particular on the events and experiences of the miners in the South Wales Valleys, and the women who fought alongside them within the context of the wider communities.
